Facts
Devil's hole is a geothermal pool and branches into into caverns 300 feet deep.
Devil's Hole is mysterious in the fact that seismic activity all the way from Japan, Indonesia, and Chile effect waves in the aquifer.
The imagination is sparked just by hearing the name.
Charles Manson was captured there. He believed that Devil's Hole was the entrance to an underground world where he and his followers would hide out.
And now the fun stuff
There are several legends of underground world beneath Death Valley.
One of them comes from the Paiute Indians.
The chief lost his wife. Because of his grief, he took his earthly body into the spirit land. His journey was long. It included beasts, evil spirits, and demons. He pressed on. He eventually found a cavern where the dead spirits were dancing. He requested his wife. He was granted his wife but had to make a promise to not turn around. This, however, was a difficult request. He gave into temptation, turned around and his wife vanished.
This was a summary of a summary taken from the book Weird America.
In 1800, a couple of miners claimed to have found a cavern that went on for twenty miles. They said there was an underground city that contained mummies.
August 1947, Howard E. Hill claimed that in 1931, a retired physician discovered tunnels below death valley. Which, is possible, because caverns are all over the world, including close to my home town. (Hi, Round Rock).
But, the story is that Russell claims to have found skeletons of giants wearing skins of animals we have never seen before.
Don't plagiarize me, bro!
