Our Park

Going to the park has become a daily routine for me and Ollie.

We had one route we normally walked, but we had to change it because one neighbor kept telling us about her kamikaze birds. Every day she would tell me about how the birds in her tree would attack anyone walking by. I never got attacked by said birds, because as established in the post before, I'm basically a Disney Princess and birds acknowledge that.

Ollie sees has two little friends, William and Brecken, who are just a little younger then him.  William and Ollie are very similar in personalities. They always look for each other when they go to the park and follow each other around. They both love to climb, swing*, and dig in the dirt. Of course they are two, so they don't interact with each other much, but they still like the other to be there.

Brecken is all girl. She is such a little mama, and will take care of William or Ollie if either of them gets hurt. She brings William his drink or will get on to him if he is doing something he isn't supposed to do. William is the singer, but Brecken loves to dance.

I have become friends with the nanny who brings them. She was a preschool teacher before. She has these kids dressing themselves, eating vegetables, and they are getting potty training down. So, I am constantly soaking up information on how to raise a toddler, because I will never stop declaring that I have no idea what I am doing as a parent.

I remember looking down at my belly when I was pregnant with Ollie. I was taking a video because Ollie was auditioning the scene in Alien when the alien bursts out of the man's chest, except he was trying to punch through my stomach.**

Wow, that took a weird turn, but I promise there is a connection.

So after my belly stops doing the wave, I turn to Aaron in a panic and say "I have no idea how to take care of a baby!"

And then after Ollie was born and our hospital stay was over, they somehow entrusted me with this delicate little human. I still had no idea what I was doing.

Somehow Ollie survived his babyhood and now we have a toddler and now I am saying "I have no idea how to raise a toddler."

All this to say, I am so grateful for the "village" that Ollie has. He has such a good community around him. I have collected them from our families, church, BSF, the Science Spectrum, the library, and the park. I know despite my ignorance, he will be alright.

*Swinging cannot be accomplished unless one of them is singing.
**My editor is away at church, so it's his fault that this graphic imagery is left in here.
