Over the Flat Land and Through the Tumbleweeds to Grandmommy’s House

No matter how long it takes for us to travel, seven hours to my parents or three and a half to Aaron’s parents, the last hour of the trip is when Ollie decides he is done with the whole idea of road tripping and would like to be out of the car, thank you very much.* Ollie’s cabin-fever can usually be remedied by singing every song he knows: Old MacDonald**, Holy Holy Holy,  two versions of Jesus Loves Me, Good Morning God, Froggy Went a Courtin’, and You are my Sunshine to name a few.

It was the Hill’s turn for Thanksgiving this year. Aaron’s parents bought a new bed set and moved their furniture into the guest room, so we no longer had to sleep on a mattress from 1942. Not exaggerating. They said they found a war bond under the mattress. Honestly, I’ve slept on worse. Ollie slept in our room on a pad of blankets. He would come crawl in our bed in the middle of the night. I dubbed him ghost baby because, as I mentioned before, Ollie sleeps with the blanket over his head. When he stands up, he looks like this:

Last time Ollie slept with us was when we went to Abilene for homecoming, and that went great! For me, because Ollie cuddled with my face. He kicked Aaron in the chest. This time didn’t go as well as Ollie was excited to be there and not much sleep was had. One time he did cuddle with me super well, but Aaron had no blanket or bed. By seven AM, Ollie was ready to be awake, so we sent him to grandmommy, who also enjoys morning.

The Hills have a little bit of land, so my dog and Ollie enjoyed outside the most. Ollie would bring his football out there and try to catch the ball, but his puffy jacket would get in the way. Grandmommy got Ollie a little teepee, which was perfect to stick him in with all the toys. There were boxes from their new bedroom set so Ollie loved climbing over and through his tunnel.
I only managed two pictures the entire week. Shocking since Ollie can’t sneeze without me taking a picture of him.

Ollie enjoyed the loud talk, sports watching, pajama wearing, overeating, classical movie watching, Harry Potter marathoning week at Grandmommy’s.

*I am so sorry former English teachers of mine for what I’m sure is a poorly constructed run-on sentence
** Seventeen verses. Usually pigs or cows when Ollie suggests. My suggestions include dolphins and dinosaurs
