In yet another attempt to make the weekend slightly different from the week, I made a DIY, at-home, and recycled mini golf course in our home. This included 18 "holes." I collected ropes, cups, cereal boxes, bricks and branches, a tin can, and various Ollie toys. It took a couple of days to craft, plan, and Pinterest. An hour to set up, and an hour to play. Some of the better ones include:
Hole #2
Every mini golf business needs a water hazard of some sort. I filled a kiddie pool with water and blue dye (which dissolved before we started) put a board from a pallet and a ramp leading up to it. Ollie attempted to hit the ball with the putter, but decided rather quickly that the easiest way to get the ball into the cup (that was our makeshift hole) was to pick it up and put it in there.
Hole # 3
This one is my favorite, not because it was completely successful, but because it gave me an excuse to put a pully on Ollie's treehouse. The premise is you hit the ball in the bucket, dump the bucket into the treehouse, down the slide and into the hole. The slide being higher than the platform kept the ball from rolling down it, but now Ollie has a simple machine to play with.
Hole # 6, 7, 11
Bowling, windmill, and a castle, respectively. I made the bowling pins out of an amazon box and the wrong side of wrapping paper, the wind mill out of an ice cream carton and a drywall putty bucket, and the castle out of cereal boxes.
The course started in our backyard, went to our front yard, winded through our house, and ended in the backyard. If I redid this, I would make it only 9 holes. Ollie didn't have the attention span for all 18, especially when we came inside. Also, 18 holes is a lot of work as far as making unique obstacles. At one point, I resorted to using a Dr. Pepper box.
Too be fair, I did want to include a drink theme in one of my holes because the "19th hole" is a common name for golfers getting drinks. Unfortunately, this just looks like I have trash on my floor.
I am really glad we attempted this. I need some kind of creative outlet so it gave me something to do for three days. It gave us something to do as a family. Ollie had fun, even if he didn't learn the concept quite yet.
Maybe next week I will create an amusement park.
I'm impressed! Doing all the Mom stuff is tough. But keeping those littles entertained & occupied is the hardest. If you need an easy one sometime, my littles loved our water fights with empty condiment squeeze bottles. They're easy to fill and squirt farther than most water pistols. You need a really warm day though.
