11. Aaron graduates with his masters, and now I can finally get new paint!
Our local hardware store was having a sale on paints and I knew I was wanting to get a greige color (combination of grey and beige). So, with even less effort to picking the color, I took this baby home and probably stayed up way too late painting over the whole wall, after texturizing and puttying. I got lucky this time. I really like it. It is neutral enough so you don't have to worry about clashing with anything, but it is also a warm, cozy color. I do note the irony that we were initially getting away from beige, but ended up going back to it. The prodigal daughter has returned.
12. This isn't exactly in chronological order. Before we painted, I wanted to re-grout the tile. It's a messy job.* There was some tile that wasn't level so I decided to go ahead and replace them.
I attempted to pull up the tile so I could just reapply it with more mortar. I was so not successful. Only one or two tile were successfully pulled up without breaking and we had one extra in the garage.
No problem, we'll just pick up the amount we need from the store. Except, Lowes no longer carries those tiles. They were on clearance the year before and we didn't think clearance meant cleared away and no one sells it. Anywhere. Not even the black market. With much trepidation, we came to the conclusion we were going to have to do our floors all over again. That's right. It took two attempts at both the wall and the floor.
We went with wood laminate flooring which was super easy to install. It requires no adhesive and just locks together.
13. One super easy, but very transformative project that cost next to nothing was spray painting the vent hood. I was making over my fireplace and I had black spray paint that is made to withstand high temperatures. Having way too much fun***, I decided to take on the last bit of yellow in my kitchen. I used cardboard and trash bags to protect the cabinets, while I sprayed, which worked for the most part. I did have to go back and paint over the spots again.
14. Details... details.
The table and chairs were bought off Facebook Marketplace and were painted with white chalk paint on the bottom and a grey stain on top.
Our counter-height barstools come from Amazon. They swivel, which not only helps adjust the height, but are good entertainment for the two year old.
Curtains came from Target. I had a hard time deciding if the window needed curtains or not. After polling Instagram**** I ultimately decided to go for it. I ordered two panels and cut them in half, hemming them with fabric glue. I screwed in headless screws into drawer knobs, drilled pilot holes, used anchors and screwed in the knobs to the wall.
I put floating shelves above the sink.
Grocery sign, gnome, watering can, and plant basket cover from Hobby Lobby
Welcome sign from Cracker Barrel.
Stained glass made by my late aunt, an apron collection I've had going since college, some decorative plates given to me by my mom, and wall decor I am pretty sure I got at TJ Maxx.
Light feature we found in the clearance section at Lowes.

And finally, here is the reveal. She was a lot of work, but so worth it. We spend so much time in the kitchen and it is the first thing you see when you walk in our house. We have created so many memories here and I am thankful to make it my own.
**Anyone have the address to the black market?
*** It could have been the fumes.
**** As one does for all of life's greatest decisions.
