Don't Tell Me How to Feel

Hello, my name is Chelsea and I am a millennial. I was born in between 1981 and 1997. That's right, I am what is wrong with the world. I have tried to get better, but I don' think there is anything I can do. That being said, I took a little bit of a hiatus because I wasn't sure if I was being self-centered for blogging and expecting others to read it. Not that I think blogs are self-centered, I am just trying to fight the millennial stereotype. What has awoken me from this hibernation?

Reality TV.

Specifically sound effects in Reality TV.

This is a Waterphone:

A Waterphone is often used in scary movies to create a sense of dread.* It also, often used in Reality TV shows. Here is an example:

This is used in Reality TV for dramatic effect. I first noticed this by watching "Food Network Star." They are very liberal with this noise. Susy looks at Frank weird: weeeaaaaaaahh. Someone forgot the salt: weeeeeaaaaaaah.

Here is another example of Reality TV sound effects (this doesn't annoy me as much, though)

This is usually used in transitions.

I couldn't find a specific example but, castanets are often used to signify something dramatic is happening.

It reminds me of knees knocking or teeth chattering.

There are a lot more effects used, such as gongs or drum beats. I understand that it all adds to the experience. All I am asking, dear reader who can actually do something about it, is to calm down with the Waterphone. Next they are going to put emojis up on the screen so we know when to feel happy or sad.

*Look for movie effects in another blog

Here is a Youtube video that talks about why they have a love/ hate relationship with Reality TV. Sound effect examples starts at 4:30
