In 1957, James Vicary, a market researcher, claimed sales went up for coca-cola and popcorn when those phrases were inserted into the movie, Picnic.
That's right, we are talking about subliminal advertisement
It turns out, he fabricated those results.
Whether subliminal messaging works or not, let's look at some examples of how those were used in the past.
During an Iron Chef America episode in 2007, a logo for McDonald's flashed on the screen for a brief instant. McDonald's claimed they don't do subliminal advertising and the Food Network said it was a technical error.
ARIA is an Australian music awards show. By the way, the name is really clever, considering it is an awards show. They used subliminal advertisement like crazy in 2007. (What was happening in 2007?)
There are 23 examples of logos being used in single frame shots.
Look at this 2000 presidential campaign advertisement for George Bush. The 'rats' of "beurocrats decide" flashes for a second.
I keep re-watching the video, and I can't see it. The ad was taken off air, but there were no penalties imposed.
Remember this game? I don't. I'm too young (see last post where I admitted I am a millennial).
In a 1973 commercial for this seemingly fun game, parents noticed there were flashes of "GET IT" on the screen. FCC quickly took it down. I couldn't find the advertisement on Youtube, however.
Also, the game sounds fun. So maybe the one ad I was able to find for this game did have subliminal advertisement and it worked on me.
Probably.

or is there?
Here is a fun advertisement made in 1958 that spoofs on subliminal advertisement.
Don't plagiarize, bro!
