I had someone ask me how old Ollie was and I overheard a stranger say,”five months and she looks like that?!” (It was a month ago).
That felt so good to hear.
Let me preface this by saying I do not want this to come across as braggy. In fact, I’m pretty ashamed for how much I lost control. I got to my heaviest within the first year of my marriage. I guess I figured I snatched me a man so now I can eat. I struggled for another year, without much success, to get the weight off.
This is my weight loss journey.

The left is a picture of me at Aaron’s ordination, and the right is me getting to my wedding weight (50 pounds lighter) I was very proud of myself. Covenant hospital sent a mobile wellness check to our campus. They check your heart rate, blood pressure, bone density, etc... I knew they were going to be so complimentary for how in shape I was. Then I got my report back. “Lose weight fatso!”
Just kidding... but I read between the lines.
Fast forward to Aaron and I trying to make an Ollie. I read that it’s easier to conceive if you aren’t overweight so I got down to the magic BMI number... and I got pregnant a month after that.
I made a point to eat healthy throughout my pregnancy. I want to clarify that I wasn’t upset about my belly growing. I was excited! I just really wanted to be healthy.
.
According to my 23andme report, I am predisposed to be overweight.
So it will be work to keep it up. I didn’t do any exciting program to lose weight. I just counted calories but didn’t add fruit and vegetables in the count. And to maintain it, I weigh myself daily. I know it sounds obsessive, but I’m still learning how to eat to not gain or lose.
This is me 70 pounds lighter than the first picture.
My next step is to add exercise to the mix. Which, y'all, I am a theater kid who is really bad at dancing (got kicked out of a volunteer dance team for being horrible at it) and who has exercise-induced asthma, so I don't find activities where I have to move exciting. It might be a while before I motivate myself to do that...
