Just Hanging Out

I dropped Aaron off at church, trying to get out of taking Ollie to a class we didn’t mean to sign him up for at Amarillo College. I had just enough time to change clothes, because I was supposed to be involved in this “Mommy and Me Creative Movement” class, too. I was really hoping to get out of it so I was in jeans and a sweater, not exactly dance wear.

We got home, I threw Ollie on the potty and I tried to gather an outfit that was slightly better than my everyday wear which is oversized sweats and T-shirts. I swear my neighbors must think Aaron is kindly harboring a homeless woman. After having an existential crisis involving tights, we made it to the college with five minutes to spare.

Ollie turned out to be the only one signed up for the class and I told them I was really trying to find a gymnastics class, but I (my husband) signed up for the wrong one.

We show up Wednesday to Ollie’s new class after convincing Ollie that we got what we needed at Lowe’s and we didn’t need to look anymore.

This one is part music, part free play tumbling. Ollie walked into the gym and his eyes lit up. He immediately started running around the mat in circles.

The music time consisted on different songs where they have to follow directions either with how to walk (gallop, skip, hop, skate, dinosaur), play with a beanbag, or drum with sticks. Ollie’s pleasant smile he was sporting turned into a giant grin when they brought out the parachute. He immediately laid on top of it. He usually does that when I’m making the bed, so I wonder if he thinks that is the custom.

Then it was time for free play gymnastics.

I did have to convince him there was more to the gym than this mat.

He had fun trying out different things, especially the tunnel, the one thing we have at home. I was really grateful for the other kids because he was more convinced to try things when he saw what they were doing.

I am really glad Ollie is in this class. I think he will have so much fun. His teacher said she would even teach some tumbling.
