Week 7: camping

Last week I played a lovely game of trying to book a flight on a plane that wouldn’t be cancelled so I could bring Ollie and Harper to see my family in Austin. Both kids travelled great and there were so many helpful folks in the airport.

The actual trip was great, and Ollie had fun climbing hay bales, riding rapids, and gardening with my mom. Harper had a great time with any activity  just as long as she was  around people, was being held, and was told how cute she is.

We got all our activities in, but not exactly on their designated days. To keep it simple, I just kept the title.

Make it Monday

This one was a cool one… or a hot one.

The goal:

I was more excited about this one than Ollie. A four year-old is known to change his opinions of things from day to day. At least our’s is. Today he decided he didn’t like it when glue made it onto his hands. So our initial attempt didn’t go very well. He wanted me to do it all for him and I’m determined not to be a helicopter mom.

I was determined for him to come back and work on it more. When my dad walked in on me glueing tissue paper onto a cup and asked what I was doing, I yelled “motivating!”

That did the trick and he added more tissue paper.

I should have shown him a picture to begin with so he knew what his goal would be.

It also went a lot better gluing directly on the cup and then sticking tissue paper on top verses gluing the tissue paper one at a time.

Take a trip Tuesday

The Friday before we went our trip, we had a movie night and then Aaron and Ollie went camping in our back yard.

At midnight, Ollie wanted to sleep in his bed inside and so Aaron tucked him in and went back outside to clean up. I guess Ollie thought Aaron was going to camp without him so he decided to try again.

I’ve been excited about them having father-son camping trips and this was a good step towards it.

Aaron’s back only suffered a little bit. That could be blamed on Ollie’s shoe, which made its way underneath him.

Our dog decided to do her part and barked all night.

Water Wednesday

My mom took me, Ollie, and Harper to the Blue Hole , which is a lagoon in Georgetown.

Ollie’s favorite thing to do was to ride the rapids. He could have been there a lot longer, but Harper was getting tired and there wasn’t a whole lot of shade.

It reminds me of Medina River which runs in front of my parents’ property in Bandera. We would spend our summers splashing around and riding the rapids just like Ollie.

Thinking Thursday/ Foodie Friday

Thinking Thursday’s activity involves using a solar oven to bake s’mores, so I’m cheating and saying this counts as Friday’s activity.

This was the goal:

I think it would have worked, but the only available days I had made for this project were overcast so the marshmallows didn’t roast.

But the chocolate still melted and graham crackers and marshmallows were involved so there’s really no way to mess  this up.
