Week 8: Pirates

Next week Ollie is starting Mother’s Day Out, but we still have one more week of this summer schedule so we might try to squeeze it in. We only did two of the activities listed, mainly because of supplies and location, but I think we still met the theme.

Make it Monday

I judge how good an activity is based on how involved it makes Ollie. This one required a lot of prep work on my end and very little participation on Ollie's end. So, this was super cute, but I wouldn't recommend it for preschool age.

Since pirates aren't good guys, Ollie had me put a mad face on his.

Take a Trip Tuesday

There is absolutely no pirate themed activity anywhere near us, not even a Long John Silvers. I decided it was a good excuse to revisit the aqua park in Canyon. I was so proud of Ollie.

He tried the slides he was afraid of and even gathered up the courage to have the big bucket of water poured on him. He adopted saying "wait for it.... wait for it" from other kids.

Of course seeing other kids there was his favorite part. That’s his favorite part of going anywhere. Anytime we say we are going to the park or library Ollie says his friends will be there.

Water Wednesday

This activity was brilliant. Ollie had so much fun and it was so easy to set up! We just set up a plank over our splash pad and Ollie balanced walking on it. This kept him entertained for a very long time.

Thinking Thursday

I put Ollie in a pirate costume and we did a treasure hunt! I found this pre-made scavenger hunt clues on Pinterest and then put them in their designated areas.

I really love my son, but he's going to have to get a LOT better with logic if he ever wants to make it as a detective.

"Okay this clue says it to go to the place that keeps food cold."
"steak!"
"..."
"cheese!"
"Hmmm.... what food needs to be kept cold? Milk? Where do we keep milk?"
"Oven!"
"We put milk in the oven?"
"DRYER!"

So, I ended up having to just give him the answers, but he still had fun. I put a bunch of sidewalk chalk and stencils in a treasure box and we got to play with it after Ollie found it.

Scrumptious Saturday

Today we made a cake based on my favorite candy bar, 100 grand. Get it? Because we had a pirate week we did a money theme.

I have one heck of a sweet tooth and it’s very rare I call things too sweet or too rich, but y’all.. I just had a tomato for lunch after this dessert. Wow, it was sweet.
