Hill to DIY on: Laundry Detergent

Years ago, I had a friend from church who said she made her own laundry detergent. I’ve liked the idea and have been wanting to do it because it seems like a really easy way to save money.

This method also is all-natural..just three ingredients… if you’re into that sort of thing.

I’m linking the post I got the recipe from here if you’re interested in trying it. You can get these ingredients for about $28.

You use 4 tablespoons for a full load.

Just to the first line of a laundry scoop. In comparison, my Tide powder laundry detergent says to go to the fifth line, or the whole scoop.

I’m guessing we probably buy laundry detergent every or month- and-half. So we are spending about $170-$200 per year.

I ended up with enough for a gallon container and half a tide box.  My first load was on August 12, so I am curious how long this much detergent will last me.

I’m curious is there anything you DIY to save money? Or do you have a different recipe?

  1. I've been making this for years. I'll also add in a bottle of scent boosters.
