Ultimate Summer: A Camping We Will Go

The child version of myself would be so disappointed to discover that I am not one who likes to camp. I would grow up watching Parent Trap (both versions) and Meredith or Vicky was so lame for not being outdoorsy.

We did camping week anyway, hoping to make my children better people than who I am.

Make it Monday

Ollie carefully placed woodland-themed creatures all over a jar. He pressed each down and the dabbed red paint all over the jar, and some on his clothes.

I was cooking dinner and he would come back to check if the paint dried yet. Finally it looked ready, Ollie picked it up, and got even more paint on him.

We tried again later and took off the stickers thinking we would get a cool stencil effect. It didn’t. It just looked like a mess, but Ollie didn’t care. He loved the battery-powered tea-light candle. He closed all the blinds and we ate our dinner by candle light.

Water Wednesday

I had the intention of getting two pool noodles from Walmart for a Pinterest activity. We instead came back with a rubber chicken and one pool noodle.

We found a cheap water gun at dollar (and a quarter) tree and Ollie would squirt a shell down the noodle. The Pinterest activity used a boat or car, but I didn’t have one small enough.

I hadn’t told Ollie he was going camping because I don’t tell kids things until we are actually doing it just in case it doesn’t work out.

Take a Trip Thursday

Sure enough, Aaron made reservations for a camping spot in the Canyon and it rained too much there.

They camped instead in our backyard. They watched a movie, made s’mores and sword fought. Harper and I slept wonderfully in our beds.
