This is a project I have been working on since July 18, at least that’s the date of the first picture I could find.
You would think at some point I would learn to take (and put them in a safe place) “before pictures” of my projects. Thankfully I saved all the pictures of my house when it was on Zillow.
I can’t believe this is what my house used to look like. My plan is to do a “five years later” video in several months to show the progress of the house.
I had really been stuck on the idea of arched doorways. I think they add a lot of character, plus my interior design inspiration is a combination of Kathleen Kelly’s from “You’ve Got Mail” and Lorelei Gilmore’s from “Gilmore Girls.”
Check out the curves on those doorways, baby.
It looked way outside my skill level until I found this door arch kit on Amazon.
You screw in the arches…
Patch the gaps using drywall.
Smooth it out using drywall compound/ drywall tape/ drywall corners.
Prime, then Sponge on roll-on-texture
And finally, paint.
After painting I touched up some spots with more texture.
Did you notice that I started this project in July? I didn’t order the arch kits all at once, for one thing, but also, this is a very slow and tedious project.
It takes 24 hours for the drywall compound to dry so I would sand and run drywall compound around the doorways just about every day for months trying to make it look seamless.
With an exception to the master bathroom, I wouldn’t allow myself to work on any other project so I would be motivated to finish this one. I really am happy with the result, but this was definitely more about the destination over journey.
The difference might be subtle, but I think the small details is what adds character.
