I saw a video where a boyfriend gave his girlfriend some kind of treasure hunt/ mystery to solve every day for a week and it looked like so much fun.
Alistair the Elf agreed too.
Ollie woke up to Alistair posed in the bathroom with a note.
I found a treasure hunt on Pinterest for kids, but when I printed it out, it wasn’t quite what I expected and wasn’t as “Ollie friendly” as I thought.
So, I ended up having to create the whole thing, including drawing all the symbols.
The clues took him around different parts of the house, and on the back of the clues were symbols he had to decode using the key he got from Alistair.
Eventually the clues took him to the treasure that was hidden in the nook of the table.
The treasure was slime that somehow didn’t make it in his stocking last year.
Ollie had a great time! He talked about how much fun his elf is and how nice it was of him to set up the game for him. Ollie did so good with decoding the symbols and finding the clues.
He spent hours playing with the slime all morning and Harper was content coloring next to him in the kitchen. I was actually able to get away with watching the Nutcracker while cleaning the house.
It ended up being such a picturesque morning and I want to make this into an annual tradition. Definitely have fantasies about making it an elaborate-around-town hunt when the kids are older.
I highly recommend having a five year-old during Christmas.
Ollie fully embraced the magic of Christmas and it was so fun getting to orchestrate it for him.
