Roll for project 5

1. bathtub faucet leak

The water pressure from our bathtub’s faucet has never been great. It also developed a leak, which our cat LOVED. I knew it was something we were going to have to address, but calling a plumber sounded expensive. Let’s say it all together: “Chelsea needs roll-for-project.”

Just like every good video game (I assume), my journey began with an old man in a shoppe telling me the quest I must go on. I was sent to the keeper of years-old parts where I described what I was looking for. He disappeared into the room of requirement, presented the object, and used magical words like “escutcheon.”

My next task was to play a logic game of  “put a new faucet cartridge in.” The hidden secret was that I needed a different character to put this in, so I switched over to “the husband” whose strengths include: able to turn off the water at the meter despite the cockroach monsters and to tighten the screw really well.

We defeated the game. The water pressure is amazing. And I no longer have to clean up dirty paw prints all over my bathtub.

2. lamppost

While thrifting, I found a light fixture that looked like the top of a lamppost and thought maybe I could do something with it. It of course was the next project I rolled. I ordered a post that was the perfect size for it and used my muscle to dig a deep enough hole. And by my muscle, I mean Aaron. Used gravel and concrete to secure it. I love it! It was a pretty easy afternoon project. For me… Aaron had to do all the hard work.

3. countertops

This is the third attempt at giving my kitchen countertops a makeover. They have been painted, had cedar planks placed on top, and now I am putting a peel and stick laminate specifically made for kitchen countertops. The paint didn't last long because I don't think I ever put a top coat on it. The cedar planks held up, but it was very difficult to clean in between the planks, plus my taste has changed some since I last made over.

The peel and stick laminate is supposed to be "heat, waterproof, scratch, and tear resistant." I'm loving how it looks. I spent a lot of time prepping the surface: taking the planks off, and sanding all the paint off to the original '70's yellow laminate.

4. living room rug

This is not a project, unless you consider slightly moving furniture to stick a rug underneath. I am on a slow journey to narrow the colors in my living room down in order to have some cohesion. I have had this rug on my Amazon wish list for a while just waiting for me to roll the dice so I can buy it.

(Picture from Amazon)

This rug will be perfect to tie in the blues and greens in my living room, as well as the orange tint of my floors (which is something I learned through the school of TikTok is something you should consider when designing a room). This addition will also please my son who thinks my floors are entirely too slippery.

This is the mood board I made. I had too much fun making it. The rug really ties all my colors together.

Coordinates well with my dog, which is also something you should consider.

5. shower curb

I really didn't want to show the "before" because this was a failed attempt from the last time I made over my bathroom. I already started taking off the tile before I took the picture so it really made it look like it needed the makeover.

I've since learned you need a solid piece of tile on the curb threshold.

Very happy with how this turned out. Part of doing projects is making mistakes and learning from them.
