I may have broken the rules twice with this one. Considering I am the only player, I will allow it.
Ollie helped me a lot with this project. These were the last remaining brown doors in the house and we finally took care of them, thanks to the dice.
I know my boring air vent covers have been the hot gossip everyone has been talking about, so I finally replaced them with decorative air vent covers I DIYed using this Pinterest tutorial.
Full honesty, I didn’t roll the dice for this one, but this was on my list and Aaron was motivated on his own to do this, so I’m crossing it off the list.
3. replace tiles in guest bathroom
When I originally tiled the floor years ago, I just had a tile cutter and not a tile saw, so I didn't have the best cuts on some of my tile. I also had tile missing for years. I don't even remember the original reason I took the tile up but it is so nice to not have to step over a cavern to get into the bathroom anymore.
Whenever I did the cuts for the shower curb, I went ahead and cut tile for this because I knew it was on the list and I wanted to make the best use of the tile saw we were using. Of course I was missing a tile and had to rent one for this project, anyway, but the thought was there.
The guy who rented me the saw from Home Depot was so sweet. I guess he was touched by the tragic story of the one missing tile. And because I only had the saw for an hour, he didn’t make me pay for it!
I love the look of this tile:
I considered making my own concrete tile that looked like that (but I came to my senses). I even considered peel and stick tile. I reserve the right to change my mind, but I am actually content with this neutral tile I have in the bathroom. I think it finally looks professional enough... and old people are finally safe in my house.
4. mount toilet paper holder (again)
When I made over my master bathroom, I really liked the idea of having an ornate toilet paper holder. I found something at a thrift store... still not entirely sure what it is and decided I could turn it into the toilet paper holder of my dreams (I'm aware of the ridiculousness of that sentence). I bought an actual toilet paper holder that lasted on the wall for a month before it was ripped out of the wall. I have a life long battle with wall anchors.
I saw this video on TikTok where someone put wood in between studs to better secure her toilet paper holder. So I put a hole in my wall, found the stud and then just used the stud without the wood. I have just as much luck with a stud finder as I do anchors, so I would have put just as big of a hole in my wall had I just tried to use a stud in the first place. The shelf is being held up with an adhesive tile mat, nails, and hopes and dreams.
Of course I will eventually paint the Spackle whenever that project is rolled
5. treehouse: deck
I'm not playing by the rules again on this one. I didn't roll for it, and it's not even on the list. But it's a big project, so I had to include it. I grew up with movies like "Jack," "Dennis the Menace," "Now and then," "Swiss Family Robinson," and "Stand By Me." They all had awesome treehouses and none of them are set in Texas. Our treehouse surrounds the tree but is not using the tree as any sort of support. I followed this blog for directions on how to build a deck.
The hardest part was getting the posts set straight. I built the "box that connects to the posts before I poured the concrete (after Aaron dug the holes for the posts). I kept having to readjust the box and sometimes the screws didn't want to go in, so it took several days. My hands were not very pretty afterward.
I don't have a solid plan for what the rest of the clubhouse will look like, but my clients want a zip-line (Ollie) and it to have all the colors (Harper).
What's your favorite tree house movie?
