Ollie wasn’t into the process of making this one, pop-up dinosaurs, but he loved the result.
He liked cutting the paper. Still need to work on what it means to cut around the lines, but he’s getting better at holding it. He didn’t have any desire to help me work on the rest.
He absolutely loved playing with it though. It sparked his imagination.
He decided that one of the dinosaurs is a daddy, they ate leaves and when they went into their shells they were going to bed. I get so excited when Ollie goes into pretend play mode.
Take a Trip Tuesday
Lamenting the fact that we don’t live any closer to the dinosaur amusement park in Kansas or a dinosaur park in Glen Rose, Tx, we settled for the dinosaur exhibit at the Plains Historic Museum in Canyon, TX.
The exhibit appeared smaller since we’ve been there, but they actually expanded it. They had large puzzles for kids to put together that captured Ollie’s attention for 30 seconds before he moved on. Also, it took me way longer than it should have to finish putting it back together.
I kept thinking he was looking for the alligators, but he was actually looking for the elevators.
He was a good sport at playing interested in all the fossils I made him look at, but you could tell he was here for the interactive windmill.
I was able to read a chapter in my book while he was being entertained by that. He still says his favorite part was the dinosaurs.
His great-grandmother sent him some birthday money so he bought an antler whistle with it. It was hard for him to play it at first, but he kept trying and trying until he became very skilled at making a loud, ear-piercing whistle with it.
Water Wednesday
It’s four in the morning and I hear Harper crying over the monitor. She has a blow out and I change her diapers and pjs. Oh no. I forgot to get Ollie’s activity ready for tomorrow.
I could have switched Wednesday’s and Thursday’s activity, but I was thinking I had to have a while to prepare for Thursday’s as well. I don’t want anyone questioning my logic. I have none at 4am.
So at 4:12am I spent twenty minutes blowing up balloons, letting the air out, putting dinosaurs in, and filling up balloons with water.
This long introduction is to say today’s activity was hatching frozen dinosaur eggs.
After 12 hours in the fridge, the water in the balloons was not completely frozen.
Ollie would take a syringe or a piper and squirt warm water on the frozen eggs to save the dinosaurs.
This was another fun activity for Ollie. Another lapse in judgement as we did this in the kitchen rather than outside, so our kitchen was just soaked in water.
Thinking Thursday
Today we did a dinosaur dig. We have played with a lot of different kinds of sand this summer and today we made some (recipe in link). Ollie had fun helping me make it and mold it in a loaf pan.
We buried dinosaurs in the sand and had Ollie dig them out. He had some tools from a dinosaur dig toy he had (that’s way more advanced and we’re still working on). I also made the mistake of giving him a plastic spoon to dig with and the game was over very quickly.
But he loved playing with the sand and making a brick with the loaf pan.
And yes, my kitchen was rather messy.
Scrumptious Saturday
We made our usual baking video. The goal:
We made dinosaur eggs and this was one of our simpler recipes. It’s just three ingedients of Oreos, cream cheese, and candy melt. It’s amazing to me how much more independent and confident Ollie is getting in the kitchen.
